MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of high-performance network applications for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced that the Tekelec 6000 VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) Application Server includes automatic disaster recovery features that help service providers deliver reliable communications services to subscribers during the hurricane season.

The Tekelec 6000 re-routes all IP phone calls automatically to a wireline or mobile phone if an operator's network is disrupted by high winds, flooding or other problems. The architecture of the Tekelec 6000 also lets operators locate their system servers, streamers and session border controllers in geographically diverse locations, ensuring no single points of failure and continued operation because of extreme weather conditions.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)* forecasts indicate that the 2006 hurricane season will be very active. The organization has named 13-16 storms, which could result in 4-6 major hurricanes.

The Tekelec 6000 has helped operators such as Louisiana-based RazorLine, L.L.C., and Florida-based Vortex Broadband keep services up and running during hurricanes. RazorLine, which set up VoIP services over temporary wireless Internet connections during Hurricane Katrina, relied on the Tekelec 6000 to provide reliable VoIP features throughout the storm.
