IBM Executive Named Spotfire's Chief Marketing Officer; Interactive Analytics Company Looks to Expand Following the Introduction of New Products
Business Wire, August 22, 2006
SOMERVILLE, Mass. -- Spotfire, Inc. (http://www.spotfire.com/), a leading provider of interactive business analytics software that helps business professionals discover new and actionable insights in information, today announced that former IBM marketing and strategy executive Roger Oberg has joined the company as its chief marketing officer. Oberg joined Spotfire on August 14, after serving as vice president of marketing and strategy for IBM's Rational software division since February 2004. He had been a marketing and business unit executive with Rational since 1996.
"As we progress with our efforts to provide enterprise analytics to the Global 2000, Roger is the right guy at the right time for Spotfire," said Christopher Ahlberg, CEO and Founder of Spotfire. "With Roger's background in engaging strategically with major accounts in commercial markets and history of helping to develop and market industry leading products, he will accelerate the adoption of Spotfire analytics in sales, marketing and financial services applications."
The executive team expansion follows Spotfire's launch last month of Spotfire DXP, an interactive analytics application platform that extends Spotfire beyond its historical market strengths.
"Spotfire is the undisputed market leader of interactive analytics for technical segments such as life sciences, energy and high tech manufacturing," said Oberg. "The need for new insights that provide a competitive edge is as great in financial services or in any sales and marketing department, as it is in pharmaceutical research, oil and gas exploration or semiconductor manufacturing. Spotfire DXP is a more flexible platform that we, our customers, and our partners can use to configure business-specific analytical applications that will give customers new and actionable insights into the information they manage."
Oberg views partnerships with solution providers as key to Spotfire's expansion. Spotfire DXP was recently reviewed by Computer Reseller News where their findings indicated that, "Once solution providers start working with Spotfire DXP, it won't take long for them to get the hang of it. They will see that little or no training is necessary to use the software. It's as if the software can be used by almost anyone. The Test Center engineers found that no competing enterprise BI vendor can deliver on that promise."

With more than 20 years of experience in developing, selling and marketing software, Oberg will oversee all product strategy, product marketing, and market management efforts related to the evangelization and success of Spotfire.
