Business Wire, August 22, 2006
BURLINGAME, Calif. and LONDON -- Outsell, Inc. of Burlingame, CA, the leading research and advisory firm for the information industry, today announces the acquisition of Electronic Publishing Services Ltd (EPS) of London. EPS is a major global provider of information, strategic consulting and research for the information marketplace. The acquisition makes Outsell the only research and advisory firm covering all aspects of the information industry worldwide.
"This event brings together two organizations that defined the $358 billion information industry, giving it a stronger voice," said Anthea Stratigos, Outsell's Co-founder and CEO. "Bringing EPS into the fold expands our unique lens on an industry going through unprecedented change. We have found the high energy and dynamism of the EPS team a great match and are thrilled to be working with them."
In addition to increasing Outsell's revenues, the acquisition doubles its client base of publishers and information providers, while expanding its international reach. Outsell has a deep client base in North America, while EPS is strong in the U.K. and Europe. Together, the firms are now serving over 300 organizations on a global basis.
The acquisition also broadens the breadth and depth of services that Outsell will provide. Each company brings longstanding relationships and expertise in key industry segments. EPS has particular strength in the Legal Information and Education & Training niches, and has deep relationships with worldwide financial providers who invest in information companies. Outsell adds to EPS' expertise in the B2B Trade, Market & IT Research, and Search & Aggregation segments. Both firms are already well-entrenched in the Scientific, Technical & Medical information industry sector.
"The acquisition of EPS joins two highly respected organizations with complementary expertise, and strengthens our global presence, so that we can broaden our clients and services in the U.K., Europe, India, and China, among other areas," said Greg Chagaris, Outsell's Co-founder and Chief Sales Officer.
"EPS has built its business in Europe, and latterly in the U.S., by analyzing the evolution of the information marketplace and advising participants and investors on current status and future prospects. We have immense respect for the contribution of Outsell in parallel to this, and in particular their unique contributions to the study of user behavior in these emerging new marketplaces. Putting the two elements together, along with all of the other analysis and commentary provided by the two firms, creates a full-service value for clients of both firms that has not before been available," said David Worlock, Founder and Chairman of EPS, who will serve as Chief Research Fellow of the new organization. "I look forward, with the rest of the EPS team, to making our full contribution within the merged companies."
Outsell, which employs analysts across the U.S., will maintain its Burlingame, CA headquarters and add EPS offices in London to its current locations. Combined, the team will include nearly 60 industry analysts and professionals.
Both companies are known for their data-driven research, analysis and recommendations about the industry's competitive and market movements and key trends. They publish annual in-depth market size, share, forecast and trend reports on each industry segment, advise investors and track the financial performance of the industry's top 100 public companies--providing a barometer of the health of the industry and individual companies.
