Fortress Technologies Provides Secure Wireless Communications for DoD Interoperability Exercise; Program Tests/Evaluates Wireless Solutions for In-Field Deployment
Business Wire, August 23, 2006
TAMPA, Fla. -- Fortress Technologies, a leader in secure wireless networking, today announced that it successfully established and demonstrated secure wireless communications during the Joint User Interoperability Communications Exercise (JUICE), which took place at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey. Sponsored by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), JUICE is an annual Department of Defense (DoD) exercise that evaluates leading commercial technologies for operational configurations, applicability of tool sets, reporting processes, as well as interoperability with the Global Information Grid (GIG) interface for tactical deployment in support of the war fighter.

"Interoperable communications, at home and on the battlefield, are essential for ensuring combat effectiveness as well as in supporting the critical missions of our soldiers," said John Dow, Vice President, Business Development and Marketing, Fortress. "As such, the DoD must remain a leader in terms of adopting innovative solutions that assist in increasing its communications effectiveness. JUICE helps to ensure that the DoD implements leading-edge, secure networking technologies that have the capability to interface with the DoD's global network."
As part of the JUICE exercise, Fortress worked with Nortel Government Solutions and Pacstar to integrate a complete, secure wireless networking testbed. Specifically, Fortress provided its ES520 Secure Wireless Access Bridge and FC-X Series Security Controller to demonstrate secure mobile access and back haul connections.
"It is absolutely imperative that our forces are able to communicate securely while in the field," said Dow. "JUICE provides an excellent opportunity to test and evaluate next generation products and technologies prior to issuing them to a deployed war fighter. Exercises like JUICE, which establish real-life scenarios for testing, should be applauded. We are honored that DISA selected us as a secure communications provider for this exercise."
Fortress' ES520 combines wireless, switching and security services - in a small and rugged form factor - that functions as a self-contained network or as a secure wireless access point or bridge. Its FC-X Series Security Controllers provide all critical security operations for third party Wi-Fi and WiMAX products - encryption, authentication, data integrity checking, key exchange and data compression - securely connecting and protecting wireless users and networks.
