Safeway Awards Creative Account to DDB and Media Planning & Buying to PHD

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- Safeway Inc. (NYSE:SWY), one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America, announced today that it has awarded its advertising account to DDB (Chicago, IL). PHD (San Francisco, CA) will handle media planning and buying.
"After a thorough review of potential partners, we believe DDB and PHD have the strategic perspective, creativity, and collaborative spirit we need to evolve and further differentiate the Safeway Brand," said Mike Minasi, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Safeway.

Pile and Company, a Boston-based firm, managed the review process. Euro RSCG, MPG (New York, NY) and OMD (Chicago, IL) also made final presentations.
