Judith Hurwitz Joins Safeguard Scientifics' Information Technology Advisory Board; Technology Industry Expert to Provide Guidance to Benefit Partner Companies

WAYNE, Pa. -- Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. (NYSE:SFE), today announced that Judith Hurwitz has joined its Information Technology Advisory Board. The Board is comprised of individuals who possess specialized knowledge and expertise in the information technology sector. The Information Technology Advisory Board augments our internal resources and provides expert guidance and strategic direction to Safeguard and its partner companies.

Recognized as a pioneer in the technology industry, Ms. Hurwitz is among the first analysts to provide a holistic perspective on the business value of emerging technologies. In 1992 she founded Hurwitz Group, a software research and consulting firm that quickly became an industry leader with top technology clients. She currently is President of Hurwitz & Associates, a research and consulting firm focused on identifying customer benefit and best practices for buyers and sellers of information technology in the United States and Europe. She has also held senior positions at John Hancock, Apollo Computer, and Patricia Seybold's Group. A regular contributor to CIO Magazine's online site, Ms. Hurwitz is a frequent keynote speaker at industry events and holds board positions at 10 start-up technology companies. She is currently working on a book, Service Oriented Architecture for Dummies.
Ms. Hurwitz earned her bachelor and master degrees from Boston University, and Boston University's College of Arts & Sciences named her a distinguished alumnus in 2005. She also received a 2005 Mass Technology Leadership Council Award based on her contribution to the development and deployment of technologies that address critical business issues.
