BakBone Simplifies Disaster Recovery with Latest Version of NetVault: Backup VaultDR Software

Energy Management Company Automates Disaster Recovery across Heterogeneous Environments, Significantly Reducing Downtime and Minimizing Business Impact

SAN DIEGO -- BakBone Software([R]) (Pink Sheets:BKBO), a global provider of heterogeneous integrated data protection solutions, today announced the availability of NetVault: Backup VaultDR Version 4.0, a disaster recovery software plug-in for Intel architecture based systems that integrates seamlessly with BakBone's NetVault: Backup product line. The newest version of VaultDR automates rapid system recovery to simplify cross-platform business continuity while reducing administrative overhead by more than 70 percent.

VaultDR substantially reduces the time and steps required to restore operations in the event of a disaster by fully automating system recovery, including operating systems, network settings, system settings, applications, disk partitions and data. This latest version offers an updated VaultOS Operating System with enhanced driver support, SATA device support, data compression, as well as USB Flash Boot capabilities. Additionally, VaultDR integrates with BakBone's NetVault: Backup platform, giving administrators a single, centralized interface for managing data protection and disaster recovery operations.

"BakBone's newest version of VaultDR gives IT administrators the advanced features and flexibility required to ensure complete data availability and business continuity," said Jeff Drescher, director of product management for BakBone. "By automating and simplifying the disaster recovery process, we're taking the guesswork out of getting a system back up and running, while maximizing data and application availability."

For Summit Energy Services Inc., a provider of energy management services for more than 9,000 industrial and commercial facilities in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Europe, VaultDR provides the peace of mind that business operations can be resumed quickly and efficiently in the event of a disaster. According to Gary Jackson, senior network administrator, Summit Energy Services, VaultDR offers the ability to rapidly restore mission-critical onsite application and production servers to a secure offsite data center after a system failure. "Our around-the-clock operations can't tolerate any downtime," he said. "With VaultDR, we can create a stable operating environment with an extra measure of protection against data loss and application downtime."

Centrally managed from the NetVault: Backup server, using VaultDR administrators have the option of taking either an offline or online image of a live system without any impact to the production environment. From the NetVault: Backup server, the administrator selects the disk and partition(s) to be backed up and creates the VaultDR image. In the event of a catastrophe or disk failure, administrators need only boot the affected machine with the appropriate VaultDR tools, which contain the necessary drivers required to re-establish network communication and recover the VaultDR image over the network. With these enhanced features, full system recovery can be performed in up to 70 percent fewer steps than manually having to recover the system, thereby reducing manual error and facilitating rapid data recovery.
