OMG and the UML Technology Institute Announce the "OMG Certified Real-time Embedded Specialist" Certification Program

Business Wire, Dec 13, 2006

Certifies Software Engineers and Architects as Specialists in RTE Design & Development

NEEDHAM, Mass. & TOKYO -- The Object Management Group[TM] (OMG) and the UML Technology Institute (UTI) today announced the launch of the OMG Certified Real-time Embedded Specialist (OCRES[TM]) certification program. The program provides formal certification of expertise in standards governing real-time and embedded systems. The exam series is for all software engineers, from entry to senior level, and software architects who need to design and develop distributed Real-Time and Embedded applications. For more information about the exams, visit www.omg.org/rt-certify.> Targeted at architects, developers and programmers worldwide, the OCRES program is the benchmark that measures and certifies knowledge of the real-time and embedded industry standards important to employers hiring in this field, to individuals seeking to demonstrate their knowledge, and to everyone wishing to measure their knowledge. As multiple networked, specialized computers are designed and built into ever-smaller and more capable products, knowledge of these standards becomes increasingly more critical to software design and implementation.

Based on the OMG Certified UML Professional (OCUP[TM]) exam series, OMG developed the exams in a joint effort with UTI, building on the real-time and embedded expertise of OMG's membership including the co-chairs of the OMG Task Forces that adopted the specifications, authors of the specifications, and other recognized authorities in Real-time and Embedded computing. The program is now available, with UTI administering the program in Japan, China and other parts of Asia and OMG administering it in the U.S., Europe and the rest of the world. The examinations test knowledge and skills at progressively advanced levels.

"As networked systems become smaller and less expensive, providing intelligence in mobile telephones, control systems, aircraft, land vehicles, satellite systems and embedded sensor systems, the need for architects and developers knowledgeable in the standards that govern these systems has continued to rise," said Dr. Richard Soley, chairman and CEO of OMG. "The OCRES Certification Program developed jointly by UTI and OMG fills a vital need for measuring the knowledge set and skills that have become increasingly crucial."

"UTI is proud to be working at the leading edge of the critically important fields of real-time and embedded systems, and the launch of the OCRES certification program with OMG marks a major new advance in the growth of this exciting field. The support of key users in the Japanese manufacturing industries and our many partner companies has been important in the launch of this new program, and we expect a large number of participants throughout the world. The need for international standards of software quality for manufacturing and other embedded systems is central to product quality here in Japan, in the Asia-Pacific region and throughout the world," said Toshiyuki Ikari, President of UML Technology Institute Co., Ltd.

For more information about the exams, including a full coverage map, free downloads of all the specifications referenced in the exams, and links to find a Prometric testing site are available online at www.omg.org/rt-certify. For more information email ocres@omg.org.
