Giant Experiences Outage at Ciniza Refinery

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Giant Industries, Inc. [NYSE: GI] announced today that a fire occurred in a heater used in connection within one of the two units that manufactures ultra low sulfur diesel at its Ciniza refinery. Emergency personnel responded promptly and contained the fire. There were no injuries. All of the operating units in the refinery have been temporarily shut down. Giant is evaluating the timing to repair the damaged heater area and to restart the crude unit, the catalytic cracker and the other unaffected operating units, as well as the impact on ongoing operations.

The Ciniza refinery has a crude oil throughput capacity of 20,800 barrels per day. The refinery is located near Gallup, New Mexico.
