MessageLabs Appoints New Global Head of Sales
Business Wire, Dec 7, 2006
Former Whale Communications/Microsoft and McAfee Executive Rick Brown to Drive Growth for the Leader in Managed Messaging and Web Security
NEW YORK -- MessageLabs, a leading provider of integrated messaging and web security services to businesses worldwide, today announced that Rick Brown has joined the company as Global Senior Vice President of Sales. In this role, he will be responsible for managing and growing both direct and indirect sales across all regions.
Rick joins MessageLabs from Whale Communications/Microsoft with extensive experience both in security, business development, channel programs and sales to all market segments. Rick was Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Whale Communications, a leading remote access, SSL VPN security company which was recently acquired by Microsoft.
Prior to Whale, Rick served as a SVP at McAfee for over four years in multiple executive positions. He was SVP of the Worldwide Systems Integration Group and North American Telecom Group where he built a worldwide team that increased revenue by more than 30 percent within a year. Rick was also SVP WW Professional Services and SVP North American Sales for the Sniffer and PGP Divisions.
Before McAfee, Rick worked in several healthcare technology companies, as division president at Health Management Systems, business unit leader at Oxford Specialty Management, and chief operating officer at Coastal Physician Services. Rick also spent 14 years at IBM, first in sales leadership positions and then as Principal, IBM Global Services, in the process reengineering consulting group. Rick received his BA in Applied Math-Economics from Brown University and his MBA from the Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania.
"MessageLabs has experienced considerable growth over the past few years but we are now poised for a major new phase of growth, especially in North America and Asia Pacific, and need strong global leadership in sales to maximize the opportunity. I am confident that Rick has the right mix of experience and strategic thinking to help take us to the next level," said Adrian Chamberlain, Chief Executive Officer, MessageLabs.
This announcement comes as the company seeks to further accelerate growth and global expansion. For its financial year ending in July 2006 MessageLabs reported revenue of $93 million ([pounds sterling]49.7 million), its fifth consecutive year of annual growth in excess of thirty-five percent. Since its financial year end MessageLabs has strengthened its product leadership through the introduction of a new line of Small Business Solutions and has increased its global presence through expansion in Germany, the United States and Australia. Over the last eighteen months the company has expanded its product portfolio beyond email security to include services for web, instant messaging (IM) and message archiving to help businesses mitigate risks associated with messaging such as loss of confidential information, legal exposure, failure to enforce regulatory compliance or loss of business due to a virus or spam attack.
"I am excited to be joining MessageLabs after following its success over the years. With a great team in place and a time of tremendous opportunity, I am more than confident that MessageLabs has what it takes to successfully enter new markets and grow existing market share," notes Rick Brown, Senior Vice President Sales, MessageLabs. "Companies big and small are now seeing managed services as the most logical way to protect their businesses from all messaging and web threats. As the market leader in managed services, MesssageLabs is well positioned to succeed."
