Prosoft Announces CIW Statewide Partnership with Washington; Select High Schools to Implement CIW in Web-Related Classes this Fall
Business Wire, Feb 10, 2006
PHOENIX -- Prosoft Learning Corp. (OTCBB: POSO), a technology learning solutions provider and the owner of the award-winning CIW certification program, today announced a partnership with the Washington state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to offer CIW in select public secondary schools beginning in fall 2006. Washington becomes the 12th state to include the CIW program as part of its high school IT education programs.
OSPI chose to partner with the CIW program because the certification would provide an exam option for students participating in career and technical education Web development and administration courses and programs. The program will serve as a stepping stone toward future statewide articulation, in which secondary students receive college credit at participating post-secondary schools for taking and passing CIW courses and certification exams.
Prosoft has customized a one-year pilot program for Washington by mapping the state's existing Web development and administration course objectives to CIW certification exam objectives. Ten schools are anticipated to participate in this pilot phase. Secondary school educators will receive training in how to implement and teach CIW-aligned courses through the CIW Faculty Institute beginning in March 2006.
Prosoft will support the implementation process by providing Official CIW Curriculum, which teaches Internet technologies and business skills; assessment resources for more effective exam preparation; and membership in the CIW Certified Testing Center program, which enables educators to deliver CIW certification exams directly in the classroom. The partnership will expand to all other public high schools in Washington beginning in the 2007-2008 school year.
Benjamin Fink, president and CEO of Prosoft, said, "We share Washington's vision of a Web-literate workforce and applaud the state's leadership in ensuring that its students graduate with the skills they need to contribute to the IT workforce. The partnership between CIW and Washington OSPI is a natural one: Both are focused on ensuring that the next generation is ready for 21st century jobs, both see the need for industry participation in ensuring that graduates are appropriately skilled, and both care deeply about the need for educational reform. The true beneficiaries of this partnership are Washington's students."
Rod Duckworth, director of career and technical education for OSPI, said, "Information technology is such a critical component of today's workplace. It was important for us to recognize an IT certification program like CIW in which students wouldn't just learn about Internet technologies, but would be able to apply those technologies in the real world. Because CIW is based on industry-accepted skills standards, the knowledge and skills that our students will learn have direct relevance to their chosen workplace. We're looking forward to working closely with Prosoft to get the pilot program underway."
The award-winning CIW certification program helps individuals prepare for the highly competitive digital economy by teaching the essential Internet-technology and workplace skills required by today's employers. CIW is the world's largest industry-recognized job-readiness certification, validating skills in a variety of IT disciplines, including Web site and e-commerce development, network administration, security and Web languages.
