Business Wire, Feb 13, 2006
BARCELONA, Spain -- First ODM to use Soleus in custom Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) CE-based mobile devices
3GSM World Congress - Intrinsyc Software International, Inc. (TSX:ICS), a mobility software and services company, today announced that Wistron Corporation (TSE:3231.tw), one of the world's largest original device manufacturers (ODM) producing ICT products, is collaborating with Intrinsyc to integrate Soleus(TM) into custom handset solutions. Soleus is a Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) CE-based feature phone software platform developed by Intrinsyc that offers a quicker and cheaper way to build phones. Wistron is assessing the customizability and low cost benefits Soleus offers as a basis for its end customers' products, and is the first ODM to develop a Soleus-based feature phone concept. Demonstrations of the new Wistron feature phone concept, based on Soleus, are available throughout the 3GSM World Congress at Intrinsyc's stand, G16 in Hall 2.
Soleus provides ODMs with a cost-effective and feature-laden development platform for building feature phones. It includes a broad range of telephony essentials and its modular architecture offers network operators complete flexibility to tailor the end product for different customer segments. With its user interface framework and UX Designer tool, Soleus provides operators with full control over the customization and branding of a phone. Handset manufacturers can use Soleus' built-in Platform Builder configuration tool for complete control over the software configuration, enabling them to mix and match many different features. Soleus supports handwriting recognition in handsets, providing the flexibility for manufacturers to make phones for different regions worldwide that may require touch-screen character creation capabilities.
"Intrinsyc's Soleus provides a flexible software platform to build the benefits of Windows CE into our next generation feature phones," said Benson Chin, Senior Director, Wistron. "As a leading ODM, Wistron thrives on creating innovative products, and by integrating Soleus with our cutting-edge hardware we hope to deliver new and exciting mobile device designs to our customers."
"We are delighted to be working with Wistron, one of the world's largest ODMs, and this collaboration marks the first in a line of similar ODM engagements for our new product Soleus," said Derek Spratt, CEO of Intrinsyc. "Wistron has a tremendous understanding of its customers' needs for compelling and innovative feature phones. With Soleus, we hope to assist Wistron by shortening their development and testing cycles, and reducing their R&D costs as they strive to meet demand for these products."
