SingTel Optus Deploys Azaire Networks' IP-CNP for Integrated WiFi and 3G Mobile Broadband Services; Azaire's IP Converged Network Platform Powers Optus' New Wireless Connect Service
Business Wire, Feb 14, 2006
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- SingTel Optus, Australia's leader in integrated communications, has deployed Azaire Networks' platform to provide Optus Mobile with a converged network solution that fully-integrates wireless LAN technology with Optus' existing 3G network. Azaire's IP Converged Network Platform (IP-CNP) is a core component of Optus' recently-launched Wireless Connect Internet Service.
Azaire's IP-CNP enables Optus Wireless Connect users to receive seamless service access across multiple technologies including GPRS, UMTS and Wi-Fi. Birdstep Technology supplies the smart PC client.
"Azaire is a strategic partner in providing innovative technologies, such as the IP-CNP, that enable us to offer new, exciting services to our subscribers. We completed thorough testing of the technology behind the 'Optus Wireless Connect' service prior to implementation and were convinced it provided a comprehensive feature set, ease of use for subscribers and fast, non-intrusive deployment into our existing network," said Chris Lane, Group Director, Products and Delivery, Optus Consumer.
Azaire's IP-CNP provides Optus with a fully-integrated WLAN solution that leverages its GPRS and UMTS core network investments. Azaire's solution enables Optus to offer mobile broadband services, which includes SIM authentication, secure roaming, integrated accounting and billing, and seamless mobility. Wireless Connect subscribers have access to their information regardless of access technologies through their existing Optus accounts.
"Hybrid networks allow mobile operators such as Optus to extend their 3G footprints and provide strong in-building coverage by integrating with wireless LANs," said Bill Howe, President and Chief Executive Officer of Azaire Networks. "The IP-CNP solution will help ensure Optus Wireless Connect subscribers receive the best convergence solution available."
