EVault Enhances Its IBM iSeries Data Protection Offering; Achieves IBM ServerProven Status; EVault's Enhanced DeltaPro Technology Results in Faster, More Efficient Backups
Business Wire, Feb 14, 2006
EMERYVILLE, Calif. -- EVault, Inc., the trusted experts in enterprise level online backup and recovery solutions, today announced a new version of its EVault iSeries solution, the backup and recovery offering designed specifically for IBM iSeries (formerly AS/400) midrange computers. EVault's iSeries Agent Version 5.3 incorporates new patent-pending enhancements to its DeltaPro(TM) technology, and the solution recently received ServerProven(R) validation from IBM.
The EVault iSeries solution has earned IBM ServerProven validation, with out-of-the-box compatibility ensuring that certified configurations can be deployed by IT professionals with reduced total cost of ownership and optimal performance, availability and reliability.
"We're proud to have achieved IBM's ServerProven status for our newest iSeries offering," said Richard Heitmann, senior director of product marketing at EVault, Inc. "We continue to lead the industry in leveraging innovative technology to provide secure, efficient and affordable data protection."
EVault's enhanced DeltaPro technology offers improved data backup and restoration performance -- up to 1000 times faster than previous versions. The EVault agent accepts a backup stream of data from the iSeries server via an application programming interface. The agent software then parses the data stream, applying efficient algorithms to minimize detectable data changes. This minimizes the total amount of data transferred over the wire, resulting in a faster backup and reduced amount of data stored on the vault.
"Using the newest version of EVault iSeries, we've seen significant improvements in compression," said Les Tomczak, IT manager at Simmons Canada Inc. "Our daily off-site backup of 30GB averages 90 minutes -- and we're sending less than 250MB over the network. Plus, the IBM certification provides added assurance that EVault's solution will run successful backups and restores for our iSeries environment."
Additional New and Enhanced Features
In addition, EVault iSeries Agent Version 5.3 offers several new and enhanced features, including:
--Cold or Hot Backups of Native DB2 Databases: Allows for journaling or database trigger methods while in Save While Active mode.
--Parallel Backups/Restores: Increases performance by running multiple backup/restore tasks simultaneously across multiple logical partitions.
--Exceptional Security and Compression: Backup data is encrypted from the server to vault, and typical DB2 databases are compressed on average 10:1.
--Complete iSeries Disaster Recovery Solution: The iSeries software agent can backup all native objects, IFS and system state information.
Availability and Pricing
EVault iSeries Agent Version 5.3 is available now for both EVault InfoStage software and EVault Protect managed services. EVault InfoStage base list pricing starts at $16,000. EVault iSeries Agent licenses are based on the specific iSeries model, and are priced starting at $975. For iSeries backup using EVault's Protect outsourced services, monthly pricing is based on amount of data backed up and the length of the contract.
