The Sony and GlowPoint integrated solution brings together Sony's state-of-the-art line of IPELA based video conferencing systems with GlowPoint's patent-pending advanced IP-based video applications and network services. Together, the two companies will focus on increasing the usage of traditional video conferencing systems, while driving the growing use of IP-based video communications for more diverse and innovative applications beyond the traditional office environment, such as IP-based broadcasting, telecommuting and desktop Video and Voice over IP (VoIP) applications.
"Our relationship with Sony of Canada highlights how IP-based video continues to grow in importance as a key element in the future of corporate communications, content creation and broadcast distribution," said David Trachtenberg, President and CEO of GlowPoint. "By integrating our products and technology, we will continue to create unique and innovative solutions that make video an integral communications tool for our customers."
"Sony recognizes that the combination of hardware and video services is the key driver for customer driven solutions - and with GlowPoint, these solutions will be tailored to our brand, products and distribution channels," said Rick Perkins, Product Marketing Manager, Broadcast Communication Solutions Group, Sony of Canada Ltd.
Services will be available immediately, leveraging GlowPoint's existing infrastructure in Canada. Sony Canada will also be marketing and selling products using the IVE (pronounced "ivy") branded solution. IVE, or "Instant Video Everywhere," makes video communications as easy as placing a telephone call--with the power of "anytime, anywhere" face-to-face communications. Setting the standard for feature-rich IP-based video communications, IVE incorporates GlowPoint's patent pending applications including "All You Can See" Unlimited Video Calling Plans, '000' Live Video Operators, Direct Dial Video Numbers, Video Call Mailboxes and 'Lisa' the Video Call Assistant.
Additionally, customers will have access to the IVE Mobile solution, one of the world's leading Video and Voice over IP (VoIP) services, for use on desktop and laptop computers at the office, for telecommuting or while on the road. In addition to IVE's free, unlimited PC-based video and voice calling services to other IVE users, subscribers have the added benefit of being able to place video and audio calls to cell phones, telephones, and any other traditional video or audio conferencing systems outside of the IVE community. With IVE, users can now communicate face-to-face with a consistent video communications experience whether in the office, at home or on the road in places such as airport lounges, hotel rooms or coffee shops. Since its introduction, IVE has been downloaded by hundreds of thousands of users in over 75 countries around the world.
