RIM Provides Update on InPro Patent Litigation in United Kingdom

WATERLOO, Ontario -- Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) provided an update today following a ruling in the Research In Motion UK Limited versus InPro Licensing S.a.r.l. ("InPro") litigation in the High Court of Justice - Chancery Division (Patent Court) ("English High Court") in London, UK. RIM commenced a nullity action in the English High Court in relation to a patent owned by InPro, a patent holding firm based in Luxembourg. InPro previously asserted the equivalent patent in Germany. As part of the UK action, InPro also asserted the UK Patent alleging infringement with respect to certain BlackBerry(R) products. The English High Court has now ruled in favor of RIM by deciding that all patent claims in InPro's UK Patent (designated under European Patent EP 0892947B1) are invalid. InPro may seek permission to appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal.

The equivalent German Patent (asserted in Germany) was found to be invalid on January 27, 2006 by the Nullity Court in Munich, Germany.
