Verdasys Announces New Application Logging Module for Protecting Legacy, Web, and Client-Server Application Data - Without Re-programming
Business Wire, Feb 28, 2006
WALTHAM, Mass. -- Verdasys, Inc., the leader in Global Data Security Solutions, announced today the introduction of the "Digital Guardian - Application Logging Module". This new module allows companies with multiple legacy, Web and/or client-server applications to centrally monitor the usage of data handled by these enterprise applications, and to protect the data they deliver to trusted users anywhere in the world. All this is accomplished without the need to re-program the actual applications involved, permitting companies to now globally monitor data usage and flow across multiple enterprise applications simultaneously, and protect them while doing so.
"This extension to the Verdasys Digital Guardian product line sets a new benchmark and standard for cross-application data protection, and will literally save companies like ours countless dollars in application development and re-programming costs," said Craig Shumard, Chief Information Security Officer of CIGNA. "Application Logging takes the risk out of adding security features to legacy and other applications, and gives us the ability to centrally monitor and protect the use of sensitive data governed by rules and regulatory requirements such as HIPAA."
Digital Guardian's Application Logging Module represents a fundamental change in the way remote application data handled by trusted end-users can be protected and its usage audited. By profiling remote applications using the Digital Guardian's Application Profiler Tool (included with the new Application Module) and selecting which data screens and fields need to be protected, Digital Guardian can monitor sensitive data touched by end-users. This new Application Logging functionality has also been tightly integrated with Digital Guardian's other core capabilities for monitoring and protecting data, as well as its extensive capabilities for auditing, analyzing and reporting on data usage and flow.
"We see tremendous potential with this new product capability," said Seth Birnbaum, CEO of Verdasys. "Application Logging will allow virtually anyone with older legacy applications to be able to place a protective layer around the data, without the need to start a large software development project. Re-programming this class of application specifically to add security features can involve large expense and the added risk that bugs will be introduced into the application itself, with no way to fix them. Some of our customers, and others in similar industries, have applications that were developed over twenty years ago and they have told us emphatically that they are not going to open them again, for any reason. And who can blame them?"
