Motricity Appoints New Head of eReader; Elizabeth Mackey To Direct Leading Electronic Book Publisher
Business Wire, Feb 28, 2006
DURHAM, N.C. -- Motricity, a leading provider of mobile content solutions to the wireless industry, today announced that it has named business development executive Elizabeth Mackey as vice president and general manager of the company's eReader division--one of the world's largest electronic book publishers. Mackey brings a wealth of experience as a former executive of several leading publishers and media companies, including audio-book leader Audible, Inc. and Franklin Electronic Publishers. Her appointment is directly related to Motricity's ongoing investment in strengthening its business-to-consumer market channel and follows the recent appointment of Kathleen Stockham, former head of marketing at BestBuy.com, as vice president of Commerce.
"With her proven entrepreneurial expertise and in-depth knowledge of ebook technology and licensing, Elizabeth is a crucial addition to our eReader team," said Ryan Wuerch, chairman and CEO for Motricity. "She will strategically develop and lead Motricity's efforts to provide the most compelling mobile commerce ebook experience for consumers."
As vice president and general manager of eReader, Mackey will be responsible for directing all business development and operations for eReader, one of the world's largest ecommerce Web sites for eBooks. eReader offers contemporary fiction and non-fiction books, newspapers and magazines for reading on handheld computers including the Palm Organizer, Sony Clie, Handspring Visor and Pocket PC machines, as well as Windows and Macintosh computers. eReader.com offers hundreds of new eBook releases each month through partnerships with leading trade and reference publishers including Random House, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Merriam Webster, Time Warner Book Group and more than 80 other prominent publishers.
Prior to her position at Motricity, Mackey served as vice president of Content Business Development for Audible, Inc., where she identified and negotiated content partnerships for the leading digital download service. Prior to her work at Audible, Mackey served as vice president of Business Development and Publisher Relations for Franklin Electronic Publishers, where she was responsible for managing all content worldwide for the publisher of handheld reference products. Mackey has previously held executive positions at leading publishers and media corporations including Gemstar - TV Guide / Softbook Press, Simon & Schuster and The Robbins Office, and also served as vice president of investment banking firm Needham and Company.
"Increasing user adoption of the mobile channel for consuming ebooks is dependent on both content and usability," said Mackey. "Motricity is uniquely positioned to not only secure content, but also to manage the delivery process to provide a simple but rich experience for the consumer."
