Clear Channel Radio's Dick Lewis Recognized for Outstanding Leadership, Guiding Emergency Services Through Hurricane Katrina; Radio Ink Honors Lewis as America's Best Broadcaster
Business Wire, Feb 3, 2006
DALLAS -- Clear Channel (NYSE:CCU)
Clear Channel Radio today announced that Regional Vice President, Dick Lewis is the recipient of Radio Ink's "America's Best Broadcaster" award. Lewis was presented this distinguished award, part of the publication's "Radio Wayne Awards," today at RAB 2006, the Radio Advertising Bureau's annual conference.
According to the publication, Radio Ink took into consideration Lewis' leadership role in creating and directing the United Radio Broadcasters of New Orleans, in its annual selection. The exceptional work of Lewis and his team, which struggled against great odds to broadcast news and information to the people of Southern Louisiana and the outlying areas of the Gulf Coast, prompted the editors to break from format this year, naming Lewis as the single finalist for this category.
"Great people like Dick Lewis make great radio," said John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio. "Dick and his team's ability to serve the people who suffered tremendous losses as a result of this natural disaster is a demonstration of local radio's highest purpose, and of why this medium is fundamental."
While accepting the award today, Lewis remarked "I've never been prouder of radio in my 31 years in the business. Satellite didn't do it, TV couldn't do it, and newspapers stopped publishing. Radio was the lifeline, helping the people who were in trouble during the hurricane. It was the infrastructure, talent and resources of Clear Channel that allowed us to do what we did."
In addition to this honor, Radio Ink will announce next week its Top 10 Country Radio Programmers. Included in this prestigious ranking will be the following program directors from Clear Channel Radio stations:
--Ken Boesen, WPOC, Baltimore
--Coyote Calhoun, WAMZ, Louisville
--Doug Montgomery, WBCT, Grand Rapids
--Gregg Swedberg, KEEY, Minneapolis
--Kerry Wolfe, WMIL, Milwaukee
