Enova's Hybrid Drive Systems Helping Power Ford Fuel Cell Vehicles and Wrightbus Transit Buses
Business Wire, Feb 9, 2006
TORRANCE, Calif. -- Enova Systems, (OTCBB:ENOV)(AIM:ENV)(AIM:ENVS), a leading developer and manufacturer of electric, hybrid and fuel cell digital power management systems, confirmed today that its components are currently being used in thirty (30) Ford Focus Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles and six (6) Wrightbus Electrocity hybrid transit buses. E[acute accent]The Ford Focus is one of the industry's first hybridized fuel cell vehicles looking to combine the improved range and performance of hybrid technology with the overall benefits of a fuel cell. "We have had a long relationship with Ford Motor Company, starting with the Th!nk City vehicle. It is great to see that Ford is continuing their pursuit and development of Alternate Fuel Vehicles," commented Enova's Vice President of Marketing Mike Staran. Enova's High Voltage Energy Converter (HVEC) is a critical component of Ford's fuel cell power system, converting and regulating high voltage power to lower voltages for use in fuel cell systems. Enova's module transfers power between the fuel cell, the drive system and the battery and assists in energy recovery during regenerative braking. The source of propulsion power is therefore transparent to the driver, allowing him to concentrate on normal vehicle operation. The thirty (30) vehicles are scheduled to be evaluated throughout 2006 in the United States, Canada, and Germany. This includes vehicles now in use in British Columbia, the Sacramento California Municipal District, Florida, and Michigan. E[acute accent]In the United Kingdom, and as shown on a recent British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) telecast, The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, announced the addition by Transport for London of six new environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles - the first ever such vehicles in London - to the London Buses fleet. E[acute accent]Enova's 120kW Hybrid Drive System has been installed in six (6) Wrightbus Electrocity vehicles that are now in service in London. The single deck buses have been introduced on an experimental basis, and are expected to be evaluated while performing a normal route. The buses will operate on London's 360 route, from the Elephant Castle to the Royal Albert Hall. The Electrocity incorporates Enova's 120kW Series Hybrid drive system which is powered by Enova's 60kW Genset. As stated by Enova's Chairman, Anthony Rawlinson, "Enova's partnership with Wrightbus has shown that Hybrid Drive systems can be an effective business strategy and we certainly expect future fuel economy and emissions reductions will help prove that this is truly an emerging market."
