Strategic Partnership between SNOCAP and Nettwerk Music Set to Deliver In-Game Music Catalogue from EA
Business Wire, Jan 10, 2006
SAN FRANCISCO -- SNOCAP, the first end-to-end provider of digital licensing and copyright management services for the digital music marketplace, today announced that the independent Canadian label Nettwerk Music Group will make the Electronic Arts catalogue of original game compositions available to SNOCAP's proprietary digital registry. Starting today, music from popular game franchises such as "The Sims"(TM), "Medal of Honor"(TM) and "Need for Speed"(TM) will be available to SNOCAP users around the globe.
Nettwerk established an agreement with SNOCAP in early 2005 and in November of the same year, EA and Nettwerk Music Group teamed up to launch EA(TM) Recordings - a groundbreaking digital music distribution label that delivers EA's rich catalogue of wholly-owned compositions and remixes to Digital Service Providers (DSPs) worldwide.
"It's no surprise that the consumer demand for game music has grown significantly with the heightened popularity of games as a true mass market entertainment medium," said Rusty Rueff, CEO of SNOCAP. "EA's original music catalogue further diversifies the content available to consumers in the digital music marketplace, and SNOCAP is thrilled to bring EA audio content to game fans online while ensuring that the content rights are respected and followed."
"SNOCAP is opening new doors for the types of content that consumers desire and thus enabling them to experience more variety and categories of digital music," said Terry McBride, Co-Owner and CEO of Nettwerk Music Group. "New listeners will be able to discover these unique compositions, while existing fans can expand their gaming experience by accessing their favorite EA soundtracks through online music services."
"Whether it is the hip hop beats in 'NBA LIVE,' the dramatic orchestral themes in 'Medal of Honor' or the playful melodies in 'The Sims,' our fans demand that we make their favorite game music available as digital downloads. They asked, we listened," said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing at EA. "Now, game fans can download original EA game music to their .mp3 player, and with SNOCAP, we can rest assured that the copyrights to the music are respected and protected."
SNOCAP's agreement with Nettwerk is joined by deals with numerous independent labels and aggregators such as TVT Records, Artemis, Rykodisc, V2 Music, the Independent Online Distribution Alliance and many others. Additionally, SNOCAP has signed deals with each of the four major record labels which include: Universal Music Group, SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, EMI and most recently Warner Music Group.
