TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System Secures Tasmanian Parliament and Sydney School
Business Wire, Jan 11, 2006
SYDNEY, Australia -- TippingPoint, a division of 3Com and the leader in intrusion prevention, today announced the win of two new Australian customers for its TippingPoint(TM) Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS). The new customers are TARA Anglican School for Girls in North Parramatta, Sydney and Parliament House in Tasmania.
Peter Hancox, IT manager for Tasmania's Parliament House said that classified information used within parliament makes security the major IT management priority.
"Twelve years ago we built our network using 3Com products. It was a smart buying decision back then, and given the longevity of the system, I believe we are making an excellent investment in future network synergy and security with the TippingPoint IPS. I am confident the IPS will protect our system against intrusions," Hancox said.
TARA Anglican School for Girls is one of Sydney's most established schools. TARA is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment.
"In today's dynamic threat environment, firewalls and traditional security solutions are just not enough," commented Michael Etcell, IT manager, TARA Anglican School for Girls. "After thoroughly researching network security solutions, I found the TippingPoint IPS to be a well-referenced device with strong security capabilities, able to protect us in advance of a threat through its vulnerability protection. We feel secure knowing the IPS is protecting our school's network," Etcell said.
The TippingPoint IPS blocks worms, viruses, Trojans, Denial of Service attacks, VoIP threats, Spyware, Phishing and other malicious traffic from entering the network. The IPS is updated regularly through the automatic TippingPoint Digital Vaccine(R) service, which provides customers protection against the latest threats and vulnerabilities. The IPS also performs bandwidth management in order to maximize resources.
Brett Hunter, the TippingPoint regional director for Australia and New Zealand is keen to acknowledge the flexibility of the IPS through its ability to service customers in such diverse sectors as education, government and private enterprise.
"As companies continue to merge their data, voice and video networks into one converged network, it is important to have a completely secure network," said Hunter. "All of our customers identified malicious traffic penetrating their systems. With highly classified information being used throughout these organisations they were looking for the best security solution to gain complete network security."
The TippingPoint IPS secured customer networks by blocking all malicious traffic before it had a chance to compromise or cripple their systems. "We've had great reports from all of our customers on the improved protection and system performance after the installation of a TippingPoint IPS," Hunter commented.
The TippingPoint IPS is an overlay solution that interoperates in any networking environment. However, both customers use 3Com products throughout their networks. TARA Anglican School for Girls uses products from the 3Com(R) SuperStack(R) 3 Switch 4400 and 4900 families, while Parliament House in Tasmania uses the 3Com Switch 5500 extensively throughout its network.
