Bank of America Selects SunGard's BancWare for Basel II Compliance and Reporting
Business Wire, Jan 17, 2006
BOSTON -- SunGard today announced that Bank of America has extended its relationship with SunGard with the selection of the BancWare Capital Manager (previously called Basel II Capital Manager). BancWare Capital Manager, a complete Basel II solution covering capital calculation and reporting, data consolidation, credit risk and operational risk (www.sungard.com/bancware), will help Bank of America achieve compliance with the Internal Ratings Based approach of the Basel II Accord from the Bank of International Settlements.
Donna Ferretti Tihalas, Bank of America's Basel II program manager, said, "Early on, Bank of America determined that its strategy for Basel II implementation would look to leverage best-in-class risk, finance and technology infrastructure and processes. We selected SunGard for its track record of successfully executing implementations, its experience in installing Basel II solutions, and its in-depth knowledge of the regulatory framework. We were also impressed with the solution benefits that Capital Manager provides - flexibility, adaptability and ease of use."
Terence Faherty, president of SunGard's BancWare business unit, said, "In the highly integrated and competitive US banking industry, SunGard can help firms of all sizes to accurately meet the capital measurement challenge both from a Basel II and an economic capital basis. BancWare Capital Manager will help Bank of America to ensure that it is holding capital commensurate with assumed risk, and that operational processes and procedures create an environment of consistent, accurate and timely risk identification and measurement. Proper pricing relative to risk capital will help banks secure profitability and longevity."
