Roselle, N.J. Secures Classified Data with StrikeForce Technologies; Resident and Infrastructure Information Protected with Two-Factor Authentication
Business Wire, Jan 17, 2006
EDISON, N.J. -- StrikeForce Technologies (OTCBB:SKFT), the identity assurance company, has been selected by the Borough of Roselle, N.J. to provide strong two-factor authentication for employees using confidential government networks.
StrikeForce's ProtectID(TM) solution will secure access to Roselle's network for administrative, public works, emergency operations, and police and fire department personnel, helping thwart hackers even if employees' user names and passwords are compromised.
"We have to protect personal data on 22,000 residents and other confidential information in our network," said Martin Naughton, the Borough of Roselle's IT Manager. Classified data on Roselle's network includes police and fire department information, vital statistics and welfare records. "Citizens trust us to protect them from all threats, not just the physical ones. As we've seen, hackers will get information from any vulnerable source," said Naughton.
Roselle will primarily use StrikeForce's token, a thumb-sized device that generates one-time passwords (OTPs). Tokens will be synchronized with each user and StrikeForce's authentication server, requiring employees to enter an OTP when logging onto their systems.
In addition, StrikeForce offers the industry's only free "out-of-band" telephone back up. If employees' tokens are damaged or lost, ProtectID calls a landline or mobile phone. The patent-pending technology requires users to enter PINs on phone keypads, accessing the network in seconds.
"We needed a user-friendly product that went well beyond the standard username and password, but wouldn't burden our IT staff," said Naughton. "The other priority was cost, and StrikeForce gives us the best security at the best price, especially with the phone back up."
StrikeForce's one-time price of $7,200 for token and phone authentication is 64 percent less than the $20,000 up-front cost of the nearest competitor, which only offers tokens. If Roselle had selected the other company, total costs would have exceeded $40,000 over ten years.
"Affordable pricing is the first must-have of two-factor authentication, meaning there's only a one-time charge for devices and supporting back-end technology," said George Waller, EVP of StrikeForce Technologies. "Device versatility is the second, so organizations can choose tokens, phones, or other devices that best fit their needs. And having device redundancy capabilities gives users a back-up method for accessing crucial accounts, an imperative in business and government."
In addition to cell phones and tokens, ProtectID enables organizations to use other authentication devices such as biometric fingerprint readers or OTP software installed on PDAs or other mobile devices.
