Embarcadero Technologies Launches DSAuditor 3.6 Data Security Solution; Proven Database Auditing Software Helps Companies Address Data Privacy and Compliance Requirements
Business Wire, Jan 17, 2006
SAN FRANCISCO -- Embarcadero(R) Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:EMBT), a leading provider of strategic data management solutions, today announced the immediate availability of DSAuditor(TM) 3.6, offering enhanced database access and activity monitoring to help its customers ensure data privacy, minimize data theft, and meet compliance requirements. The news, which comes less than three months after the acquisition of data security solutions provider Ambeo, signals Embarcadero's swift move forward in the $214.7 million(1) data security market. This is the first release of the company's industry-leading data security solution under the rebranded name.
The company also announced that industry veteran, Gregory Davoll, will head product strategy for data security. Davoll, who most recently oversaw NetIQ's security and vulnerability management products, has nearly two decades of experience in enterprise software at leading companies including IBM, Sybase, and BMC Software.
"Embarcadero Technologies has a history of solving the data and database problems of many of the world's largest companies, and data security is a natural extension of Embarcadero's existing strategic data management solutions," said Gregory Davoll, senior director, data security at Embarcadero Technologies. "The launch of DSAuditor 3.6 is just a glimpse of what's to come; I'm excited to be leading the team that will be pioneering the next generation of data security solutions for regulatory compliance and data privacy."
"Database security continues to be a top priority for enterprises, and it is mainly driven by increased industry-wide intrusions and growing regulatory requirements. Forrester believes that basic authentication, authorization, and access control security measures are not good enough to meet all compliance requirements or to protect data from hackers," noted Noel Yuhanna, Forrester senior analyst, in a recent report ("Trends 2006: DBMS Security," November 29, 2005). "Therefore, all enterprises should look at implementing advanced security measures, such as data-at-rest encryption, granular auditing, vulnerability assessment, and intrusion detection, to protect private data."
The DSAuditor security solution joins the company's suite of robust database management and data architecture solutions, including award-winning DBArtisan(R), ER/Studio(R), and DT/Studio(R). In the DSAuditor 3.6 release, Embarcadero has enhanced the monitoring capabilities to give information security professionals the ability to audit database activity and change in even greater detail to facilitate compliance. This new release offers improved parsing functionality, including stored procedures, reference data, and command types; bind variable capture; and deeper session auditing. With more comprehensive auditing, organizations can achieve greater visibility, and therefore greater control over their systems.
"Intermountain takes data security extremely seriously because our databases contain confidential health information about our patients," said Steven Barlow, manager, Enterprise Data Warehouse, Intermountain Healthcare. "Being able to track not only what data is being accessed, but also by whom and when, is critical to the health of our business. Embarcadero's data security solution has helped us not only maintain this level of security but also provides us a greater peace of mind."
