HealthGate and Duke Collaborate on Cardiac Point of Care Tools
Business Wire, Jan 19, 2006
BURLINGTON, Mass. -- HealthGate Data Corp. today announced that it has partnered with Duke University School of Medicine to help develop order sets and other point of care tools for its Quality Architect(TM) solution. The order sets will provide customized, point of care information for a number of heart related conditions.
Quality Architect is an evidence-based, healthcare quality improvement solution that helps hospitals and health systems develop, implement, and manage quality improvement processes throughout their organizations. The Quality Architect solution provides a customizable platform that enables hospitals to create and manage evidence-based point of care forms and tools (such as order sets), facilitate cross-functional team communication, benchmark quality initiatives, and provide evidence-based guidelines in both clinical and patient versions.
The new cardiac point of care tools are being developed by top cardiologists affiliated with Duke University School of Medicine. In addition to treating cardiac patients every day, the physicians have great depth of experience in using healthcare information technology products.
"Doctors don't always know how to translate the latest evidence into specific orders for individual patients," said Dr. James Tcheng, cardiologist and Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke. "What they need is a practical approach that is customizable. That's what our collaboration with HealthGate will provide."
The order sets are designed to provide instructions and recommendations on how to interpret and implement evidence-based guidelines for a number of cardiac related conditions including: coronary artery disease, acute myocardial infarction, hyperlipidemia, and congestive heart failure.
"Duke's distinguished expertise in cardiac treatment is known throughout the world," said Bill Reece, CEO of HealthGate. "We believe that through the experience of Duke's medical team, HealthGate's Quality Architect solution will be able to offer the very best in executable, point of care guidelines and order sets for physicians."
