Vivisimo and Serials Solutions Sign OEM Agreement; Serials Solutions Has Integrated Vivisimo's Award-Winning Clustering Engine into Its Central Search Product
Business Wire, Jan 23, 2006
PITTSBURGH -- Vivisimo (Vivisimo.com), the creator of innovative software to access and cluster the world's information for better search and discovery, and Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest Information and Learning, today announced that the two companies have entered into an OEM agreement. Under terms of the agreement, Serials Solutions is licensing Vivisimo's Clustering Engine for integration into its federated search product, Central Search. The combined federated search and clustering solution will dramatically streamline the information retrieval and presentation process for librarians and patrons alike.
"Vivisimo's brilliant clustering technology is a perfect addition to Central Search. The on-the-fly subject clusters will provide librarians and patrons with a powerful way to explore the high-quality result sets that Central Search returns from a wide variety of resources," said JR Jenkins, MLIS, group product manager at Serials Solutions. "The combination of Central Search with Vivisimo's Clustering Engine will take our existing and future clients into the next generation of federated searching."
Central Search allows patrons to search a wide variety of resources from a single, easy-to-use interface. The application combines industry-leading search technology with robust results handling to provide a clear starting point for research at a library.
"Serials Solutions and Vivisimo share the belief that clustering technology allows users to harness the full power of federated search without getting overwhelmed with an avalanche of information," said Frank Bilotto, senior director of publishing solutions at Vivisimo. "The relationship with Serials Solutions has the potential to open the door to nearly 100 organizations and expand Vivisimo's presence within the publishing, content aggregation and library markets."
Vivisimo's award-winning Clustering Engine is part of the Vivisimo Velocity Enterprise Search Platform, the only enterprise software that combines search, federate search and dynamic clustering. More than 100 organizations use the Clustering Engine as part of their Velocity deployments or to overlay and improve their existing enterprise search investments.
Serials Solutions is introducing the updated version of Central Search which incorporates Vivisimo's Clustering Engine at the 2006 ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio, Texas taking place January 20-23.
