Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP Deploys Enterprise Data Management Solution from Network Appliance; NetApp® IP SAN and Data ONTAP® 7G Chosen to Simplify Data Management; Deployment Marks the 10,000th NetApp Install of Data ONTAP 7G

Business Wire, Jan 23, 2006

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTAP), a leader in advanced networked storage solutions, today announced that intellectual property law firm Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP has chosen NetApp to build its enterprise network storage platform to simplify management of critical client information, increase long-term data protection, and reduce overall IT management overhead. With offices on both U.S. coasts and a growing remote workforce, the law firm needed a flexible and high-performance infrastructure to store, share, and manage the tremendous amount of client data produced by its professional team, often with very little advance notice of changing storage demands.

The NetApp solution facilitates the success of Frommer Lawrence & Haug's mission to maximize and protect its clients' intellectual property assets. After the firm considered several competitive offerings for this deployment, Network Appliance was chosen for its enhanced virtualization capabilities with NetApp Data ONTAP 7G software, flexible support for Microsoft(R) SQL Server and Exchange environments, and integrated hardware and software solutions that deliver consolidated and simplified data protection operations.

By consolidating its storage with NetApp fabric-attached storage (FAS) systems, the firm optimized storage resource utilization and streamlined administration. In addition, NetApp IP SAN solutions networked the firm's data assets, improving data accessibility and availability, resulting in greater application uptime. As a result, the firm's storage network is more stable, and planned downtime has minimal impact on user productivity. Storage virtualization through FlexVol(TM), a compelling feature of Data ONTAP 7G, allows the firm to increase capacity utilization, lower overhead and capital outlays, reduce operational disruption and risk, and achieve flexibility to adapt quickly to the dynamic data needs of the legal staff. NetApp Snapshot(TM) data protection software provides additional flexibility and enables the firm to manage data flow by saving only "new" data and not resaving "old" data.

"NetApp has met and exceeded our expectations. We deployed NetApp to simplify administration and save money, but we also achieved greater data flexibility, greater reliability, and other benefits like great service and support," said Dean Arfanis, Administrative Director at Frommer Lawrence & Haug LLP. "We can see that we'll derive business benefits even beyond simplified operations and enhanced application uptime."

"Satisfying the storage delivery and security needs of confidential intellectual property data were important criteria for Frommer Lawrence & Haug," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Partners at Network Appliance. "We are delighted to add them to our list of over 10,000 Data ONTAP 7G installations. As the firm continues to expand nationally, Network Appliance will scale with it, providing the tools necessary to simplify their data management, ultimately saving significant IT costs and time."
