IIJ to Provide IIJ SMF Service to NTT Com on OEM Basis; OCN to Offer OCN-SMF Service Using Proprietary IIJ Technology
Business Wire, Jan 30, 2006
TOKYO -- Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ:IIJI, Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers: 3774), one of Japan's leading Internet-access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced that it will provide the IIJ network management solution, IIJ SMF Service, to NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) on an OEM basis. NTT Com plans to use the IIJ SMF Service for its OCN SMF Service, a new solution in the OCN Internet VPN service product line, which is scheduled for release on January 31. IIJ views this partnership as a chance to further expand sales of its SMF technology and strengthen its position in the Internet VPN market.

The IIJ SMF Service makes centralized management of network settings, operation, and administration, simple and easy. Customers need only to connect IIJ's proprietary SEIL routers to the Internet at each of their locations and power them up. The routers automatically complete all network configurations, including VPN and other settings. Customers can then manage the SEIL routers at all their locations through a special Web interface, which greatly reduces the work required to maintain equipment and add network functionality. This greatly reduces the costs associated with network administration.
NTT Com's OCN-SMF Service combines the IIJ SMF Service with Flet's-based corporate OCN Internet services to provide a new VPN solution. IIJ's part in the OCN-SMF Service is to provide the SEIL equipment rental component (*1) and the centralized administration component (*2), as well as SMF technical support.
IIJ and NTT Com plan to continue to work together to build systems using the OCN-SMF Service, expand sales, and provide customers with a broad range of services.
(*1) The "SEIL equipment rental component" is the IIJ SMF Service

(*2) The "centralized administration component" is the IIJ SMF Service
