Toshiba's Next-Generation Qosmio A/V Notebook PC to Feature Dolby Home Theater Technologies; Toshiba Qosmio first A/V notebook PC approved for Dolby PC Entertainment Experience

Business Wire, Jan 5, 2006

LAS VEGAS -- Dolby Laboratories (NYSE:DLB) today announced that Toshiba's next-generation Qosmio(TM) A/V notebook PC is the industry's first to include Dolby(R) Home Theater(TM) technologies.

Toshiba unveiled its next-generation Qosmio A/V notebook PC at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The Qosmio notebook PC is the first A/V notebook to support the high-definition DVD (HD DVD) format and Dolby Home Theater. The HD DVD-ROM drive in the Qosmio will provide support for Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD audio decoders. In addition, the system features the Dolby Home Theater suite of technologies including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Live, Dolby Pro Logic(R) II, Dolby Headphone, and Dolby Virtual Speaker.

HD DVD is a new optical disc format that promises to deliver high-definition picture quality in a consumer media format. Dolby Digital Plus, an extension of Dolby Digital technology, introduces new levels of audio quality, interactivity, and compatibility. Dolby TrueHD, a lossless technology developed for high-definition disc-based media, delivers tantalizing sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the highest-resolution studio masters currently available. Dolby Home Theater gives consumers the flexibility to create a rich surround sound experience that best fits the desired mood, environment, and audience--placing the listener in the middle of the movie, gaming, or music experience.

"The Qosmio PC is a multimedia dream machine for consumers who want the portability and power of a Toshiba notebook and a vibrant, multi-faceted digital entertainment experience," said Jeff Barney, Vice President of Marketing, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems. "By leveraging Dolby Home Theater, the Qosmio will ensure users receive a high-quality consumer electronics audio experience in a notebook PC."

"Toshiba has once again elevated the innovation bar by taking the PC entertainment experience to the next level, providing not only support for HD DVD, but also the best in audio quality," said Greg Rodehau, Director, PC Business Unit, Dolby Laboratories. "With Dolby and the new Qosmio, it will be easy to forget we're talking about a PC. Consumers will be enveloped by the audio and display capabilities."

The Qosmio notebook PC will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show from January 5-8, 2006, at the Dolby booth (20925) located at the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall 1, lower level. It will also be on display at the Toshiba CES booth (12827) in the Central Hall.
