IABC/Houston January Program Features Dr. Peter C. Bishop

HOUSTON -- Futurist and Associate Professor in the College of Technology and Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Futures Studies, University of Houston Will Discuss "Riding the Future's Waves of Creative Destruction"
What: Local Futurist Peter C. Bishop, Ph.D., recently told the Houston Chronicle that information technology is not just creating a better way for us to do old things--it is causing transformational change in our world at every level.
Kicking off 2006 for IABC/Houston, Dr. Bishop, an Associate Professor of Strategic Foresight and Coordinator of the graduate program in Futures Studies at the University of Houston, will be "opening the kimono of the future" at the January luncheon meeting.
About Dr. Bishop: Specializing in techniques for long-term forecasting and planning, Dr. Bishop conducts seminars on the future for business, government and not-for-profit organizations and also facilitates groups in developing scenarios, visions and strategic plans for the future. His clients include IBM, the NASA Johnson Space Center, Nestle USA, the Shell Pipeline Corporation, the United States Defense Department and Central Intelligence Agencies, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the California Environmental Protection Agency, and the Center for Houston's Future.
Founding board member of the new Association of Professional Futurists, Dr. Bishop is president of his firm, Strategic Foresight and Development, which offers education and training in futures thinking and techniques to the corporate market. He came to the University of Houston in 2005, having taught future studies at the Clear Lake campus for 25 years. Dr. Bishop received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from St. Louis University, where he also studied mathematics and physics, and his doctoral degree in sociology from Michigan State University in 1974.
