OfficeMax Deploys Fujitsu GlobalSTORE Platform; Software's Flexibility Helps Retailer Reduce the Cost of Hardware Upgrade
Business Wire, Jan 9, 2006
FRISCO, Texas -- Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. announced today that OfficeMax(R) (NYSE:OMX) has successfully deployed Fujitsu's GlobalSTORE software platform for its point-of-sale (POS) terminals and mobile devices in 940 stores throughout the United States.
"GlobalSTORE's scalability and design let us evolve our old DOS-based hardware into thin client terminals, thereby extending the ROI of the previous system while we systematically upgraded to Microsoft-based technology. GlobalSTORE allowed us to control that transition, which greatly reduced the initial hardware acquisition costs of the project," said Ken Reigle, director of store systems at Itasca, Ill.-based OfficeMax. "GlobalSTORE's user-friendly interface also decreases employee training time at the POS terminals, and makes changing or adding functions simple."
Fujitsu's GlobalSTORE application is a full-featured, customizable POS, cash management and back office platform. In 2005, it was rated the number one POS application among the largest 250 hard goods retailers in a market study published by IHL Consulting Group, a global research and advisory firm specializing in technologies for the retail and hospitality industries. GlobalSTORE has played a significant role in Fujitsu's growth over the past three years, as the company added more than 40 new clients to its retail solutions roster. Many of those new accounts are GlobalSTORE customers, including Nordstrom, Payless ShoeSource, OfficeMax and Danier Leather. GlobalSTORE is deployed at 139 customers in 19 countries.
"At Fujitsu, one of our primary goals is ensuring relentless cost reduction for retailers, and we've done just that with the GlobalSTORE implementation at OfficeMax," said Keith McNamara, senior vice president software operations at Frisco, Texas-based Fujitsu Transaction Solutions. "GlobalSTORE has facilitated a very cost-effective transition for OfficeMax, and the platform will continue to improve their POS operations and lower their total cost of ownership."
GlobalSTORE is Fujitsu's Microsoft Windows(R)-based integrated retail software platform. Its retail-specific, modular architecture and rapid-development tools make GlobalSTORE easy to customize and maintain, which lowers the retailer's total cost of ownership. It integrates seamlessly with customer relationship management, store systems, kiosks and in-store mobile computing.
