Aberdeen Research Reveals How Leading Enterprises Deploy E-Procurement Technology; Best Practice Examples Provide Key Strategies for Success
Business Wire, Jan 9, 2006
BOSTON -- A new AberdeenGroup best practices report shows that e-procurement - the ability to transact business electronically over the Internet - is reducing costs, streamlining business processes, and enabling the transformation of procurement from a center for cost reduction to one of value creation.
The report, "Best Practices in E-Procurement," details the approaches, technologies, and change management approaches leading enterprises are employing to reap maximum value from e-procurement technology. Aberdeen's Global Supply Management research team reviewed detailed information from 25 nominated enterprises and chose 10 that stood out in demonstrating best practices.
The winning enterprises featured in the report are: GlaxoSmithKline, Hewlett Packard, Novo Nordisk, Rolls-Royce, RTI International, The Scottish Executive (government of Scotland), Servicemaster, Skanska AB, the University of Pennsylvania, and Toys R Us. Enterprises were evaluated on benefits they gained, percentage of total enterprise spend that flows through their e-procurement systems, number of internal users of the system, number of suppliers enabled to use the system, and number of product categories procured using the system, among other key factors.
"E-procurement may have been over-hyped in the early days of the dot.com boom, but leading enterprises are now leveraging e-procurement to improve contract compliance, reduce material and process costs, and increase spend under management," says Tim Minahan, Aberdeen's chief service officer and leader of the Global Supply Management team. "These successful e-procurement deployments offer examples that can be emulated by other enterprises investigating e-procurement technology or the expansion of existing systems."
In addition to featuring the 10 case studies, Aberdeen's "Best Practices in E-Procurement" report identifies software solution providers that were instrumental in the success of the 10 enterprises the report recognized.
