Authentify Expert Available to Discuss New Phishing Attack that Spoofs Two-Factor Authentication; Attack on Citibank Web Site Exposes Need for Out-of-Band Authentication to Protect Consumers
Business Wire, July 12, 2006
Authentify, Inc.:
WHO: Andrew R. Rolfe, Vice President, Research & Development,
Authentify Mr. Rolfe is an expert in authentication and
identity verification systems. Prior to joining
Authentify, Mr. Rolfe was a Senior Vice President at Bank
of America, where he was in charge of the architecture for
the first Internet financial product for the Bank's
largest commercial customers. He has held key technical
and management positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories, and
was a key member of Internet document management and
delivery pioneers Odesta Systems Corporation and NetDox.
WHAT: Secure Science Corp. recently reported a new Phishing
attack that targets users of Citibank's Citibusiness
service. The attack is unique because Citibusiness is
protected by a token-based authentication system, in
addition to the traditional user name and password
security system. The attack, which uses a technique known
as "man-in-the-middle", exposes how two-factor
authentication can be breached.
Authentify's Mr. Rolfe can discuss how this new form of
attack demonstrates the need for two-way authentication
between a user and a trusted web site that processes
sensitive financial transactions. Mr. Rolfe can explain
the need and application scenarios for interactive
out-of-band authentication systems that enable account
holders and their financial services web site to confirm
their identity and participation in a transaction through
a separate communication channel like an automated phone
call.
WHERE: Via phone
WHEN: Mr. Rolfe is available for interviews immediately
HOW: Please contact Mr. Rolfe via Marc Gendron at 781-237-0341
