RCN Receives Additional Cable Franchise in Lehigh Valley, PA; Borough Council Grants RCN the Right to Provide Cable Television Services in the Borough of Emmaus

HERNDON, Va. -- RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading provider of triple play cable, high-speed internet and phone services, announced today that the Emmaus Borough Council approved a cable franchise agreement, which enables RCN to offer cable television services to more than 5,000 homes in the Lehigh Valley County, PA Borough of Emmaus.
The Company plans to provide Borough residents with a choice of cable and high-speed internet and phone services, including RCN's flexible bundles, and anticipates its services will be available in early 2007.
Emmaus Borough Manager Bruce Fosselman said, "The Borough Council is excited to have RCN coming to Emmaus to offer a competitive telecommunications alternative for our residents."
"We're very pleased that the Borough Council has granted RCN approval to offer its residents the quality phone, high-speed internet and cable services that other Lehigh Valley communities are receiving. He noted, "The high level of cooperation that we received from the Borough Manager, the Solicitor and the General Administration Committee of the Council allowed us to complete our franchise discussions and gain approval of a new franchise in less than three months."
