Mi5 Networks Extends Spyware Protection to the Desktop; Mi5 Networks and Sunbelt Software Partner to Deliver ''Dissolvable'' Spyware Cleanup Agent Dispatched From Mi5 Enterprise Spygate Appliances
Business Wire, July 25, 2006
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Mi5 Networks, the provider of the most scalable line of Anti-Spyware security appliances for mid-to-large enterprises, announced today the availability of Mi5 Enterprise SpyWash(TM), an ActiveX desktop scan and clean utility that removes spyware from infected PCs, without a permanent client installation. Mi5 Enterprise Spygate appliances already offer the deepest gateway protection against spyware -- performing infection detection and prevention by inspecting network traffic across all ports and protocols to detect spyware transmissions from infected PCs and by inspecting URLs, active Web content, and file downloads. The new Mi5 Enterprise SpyWash module extends the reach of the Mi5 Enterprise Spygate's spyware protection capabilities from detection and prevention to removal of crimeware and adware from already infected desktop computers.
"Our customers are always surprised when they first plug in the Mi5 Enterprise Spygate appliance and see how much crimeware and adware we find in their network, even in locked-down environments with desktop anti-spyware software in place," said Doug Camplejohn, CEO of Mi5 Networks. "With Mi5 Enterprise SpyWash, cleanup of infected machines is automated, and IT staffs can be freed from many hours of work manually scanning or re-imaging infected PCs."
"Mi5 and Sunbelt Software are breaking new ground by releasing the first ever dissolvable anti-spyware agent for mid-to-large enterprises," said Alex Eckelberry, president of Sunbelt Software. "Many enterprises either don't have desktop anti-spyware software in place, or have solutions from other vendors that aren't doing enough. The combined Mi5 and Sunbelt solution allows these enterprises to clean infected PCs without any permanent desktop software installation."
The Mi5 Enterprise Spygate(TM) monitors all inbound and outbound network activity at the gateway, blocks crimeware and adware, identifies all infected machines on the network and provides detailed information on each spyware infection. Once infected machines have been detected, the new Mi5 Enterprise SpyWash clean-up module is automatically dispatched to inform the end user that their machine is infected and provides the ability to scan and clean their computer without IT involvement. Mi5 Enterprise SpyWash is an Active X program and is dispatched to the desktops' browser from the trusted zone inside the enterprise network. Mi5 Enterprise SpyWash(TM) has an extensive spyware cleanup database that is updated hourly and is backed by Sunbelt Software's extensive spyware research capabilities.
Availability
The Mi5 SpyClean(TM) desktop clean-up module will be available for current Mi5 customers in August 2006, and will be generally available in September 2006.
