Student-Built ''Big Green Bus'' Running on French Fry Oil and Solar Energy to Make First Bay Area Stop at Cypress in San Jose on July 10

Business Wire, July 6, 2006

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Twelve Dartmouth College students are proving the benefits of fossil fuel alternatives by making a 10,000 mile journey across the U.S. on a bus fueled by waste vegetable oil that they pick up from restaurants on the road. The SunPower SPR-215 solar panel, mounted on the roof of the bus, is helping to power a fuel warming system, required to keep the oil from thickening in the fuel lines. The solar electricity is also charging the team's laptop computers and digital cameras. The Green Bus team is believed to be the first using solar technology in this type of application.

The Big Green Bus was originally a diesel-fueled bus that the students converted to operate on vegetable oil. Those attending the event will be able to see and tour the bus and gain an understanding of how this technology works and how it can be used to address the nation's dependence on fossil fuels.
