New Survey Confirms User Demand for Mobile Phone Content Backup; Results of FusionOne Survey Suggest Subscribers Are More Interested in Backup Than Reading Email or Downloading Games on Their Mobile Phones
Business Wire, June 1, 2006
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A new survey by FusionOne, a leading provider of personal content management applications for mobile phone users, has affirmed consumers' interest in easy, affordable backup of subscribers' address book, calendar, pictures, and downloaded content. Almost half (48%) of all respondents said that they would be interested in subscribing to such a service if their carrier were to offer it. In contrast, 37% indicated they had interest in receiving email to their personal account on their phone, and interest in receiving email to their work account was even lower at 27%.
The company commissioned MarketTools, Inc., a leading technology-enabled marketing research provider, to survey 1,000 mobile phone owners in April 2006. In addition to uncovering subscribers' desire for a mobile phone backup service, the survey revealed that 26% of subscribers had delayed upgrading to a new handset because of concerns about being able to transfer their personal content from their old phone to their new one. Likewise, almost 20% said they would switch carriers were it not for similar concerns about transferring their content.
"With more than a third of the survey takers reporting they had lost their mobile phone at least once, it's no surprise that subscribers are looking to their carriers to help them safeguard the personal content on their phones," said Richard Onyon, CEO of FusionOne. "Email access has long been seen as the 'killer app' for mobile phones, but this new survey suggest subscribers are more interested in protecting content that, in many cases, exists only on their phones."
