Trolltech's Qt Ready For Microsoft's ''Vista'' Release; Company Showcases Qt-based Desktop Applications Using Vista
Business Wire, June 12, 2006
BOSTON -- Trolltech(R), the company that makes software faster to build and easier to use, announced today that its flagship product, Qt(R), will support Microsoft's latest Windows(R) operating system, Vista. At its booth at Microsoft(R) TechEd 2006 this week in Boston, Trolltech will showcase popular Qt-based desktop applications which currently run on the latest Vista beta release, taking advantage of the many new advancements in the next-generation Windows platform. Examples will include Google(R) Earth and the Perforce(R) SCM system.
Qt developers can port their current applications to Windows Vista -- taking advantage of Vista's new features such as transparent windows -- without making changes to their existing code base. Today, Qt includes many of the features introduced in Vista including adaptable UI layout, styling and theme-ability, rich text (html rendering), advanced graphics and flexible widget content.
For Windows developers using C as their programming language of choice, Qt has been offering a powerful, intuitive development framework for years. Now seamlessly integrated with Visual Studio(R) .NET(R), Qt offers a widely used alternative for end-to-end C development for the Windows platform. Qt-based applications run across all Windows version from Windows 98 to Vista, and Windows applications built with Qt can be recompiled to target alternative platforms such as Linux(R) and Mac(R) OS X from a single source code-base.
"Qt continues to be intuitive allowing the developer to focus on the key innovative features of their application," said Naren Karattup, product director -- development tools, Trolltech. "We are pleased to offer a Vista-supported version of Qt to our customers."
Qt has been adapted and tested on the latest beta versions of Vista and Trolltech will support the Vista platform, in addition to the other Windows platforms that exist today, for Qt 4 and Qt 3.
Qt/Windows is used by thousands of companies worldwide for desktop applications ranging from visualization and complex modeling to mission-critical applications such as air traffic control and space flight simulation modules. Developers who develop cross-platform and rich client applications can draw from over 400 fully object-oriented class libraries including classes for GUI, layout, database, internationalization, networking, XML, and much more.
