Quest Software Broadens Management of Microsoft Active Directory; Announces New Management Console and New Versions of Active Directory Products
Business Wire, June 12, 2006
BOSTON -- Since the introduction of Active Directory, Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT) has offered a wide range of products that today manage more than 10 million user accounts, helping IT professionals make the most of their directory environment. Today, Quest continues to enhance the value of Active Directory with the new Quest Management Console for Active Directory, as well as new versions of its products for user activity tracking and change control, granular recovery, Group Policy management and password management. Today Quest also announced other new additions to its comprehensive support for the Microsoft platform including a new suite for managing SQL Server (see related releases).
"Active Directory is a critical part of many organizations' IT infrastructures," said Jackson Shaw, senior director of product management, Quest Software. "Quest offers a wide range of products to help organizations ensure optimal management of Active Directory, and we have now tied these best-of-breed products together in a single interface, based on the familiar Microsoft Management Console (MMC). The Quest Management Console provides a single view of Quest products and native Active Directory management tools - increasing administrator productivity."
"At Children's Hospital of Los Angeles we wanted more control over our IT environment, and we got that by bringing all our users onto one directory, Microsoft's Active Directory," said Randy Ferber, project manager, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. "Quest's products for Active Directory have added even more value by allowing us to automate processes and to understand what our users are doing as they access various system resources. Quest also gives us detailed reporting capabilities to understand what is (or is not) happening in our Active Directory environment."
In addition to the new management console, Quest has enhanced several of its Active Directory products. These four products all integrate with the Quest Management Console to provide optimal Active Directory management.
--Quest InTrust(R) for Active Directory provides automated tracking of all changes to Active Directory and Group Policy settings. Version 2.5 is now available as a Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) management pack, enhancing the monitoring value of MOM by providing valuable information about changes to Active Directory and Group Policy objects. All details behind the changes are reported, including who made the change, when the change was made, where the change was made, and the before and after values.
--Quest Recovery Manager for Active Directory enables fast, granular, online recovery of Active Directory. Version 7.5 enables more frequent backups, ensuring that recent data is always available for recovery, while saving time and reducing storage costs. The new version also provides distributed creation of backups to optimize network utilization, and leverages existing backup infrastructures, such as Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service, to speed recovery. Recovery Manager has been implemented by more than 1,000 organizations, and continues to offer unique capabilities such as recovery of any Active Directory object, including sites, subnets and Exchange storage groups, detailed comparison reports to accelerate recovery, and support for Microsoft ADAM.
--Quest Group Policy Manager helps administrators create, test and implement Windows Group Policy in a controlled way. In version 3.0, administrators can schedule Group Policy object updates at the most convenient times and enforce a multi-level approval process that will help to ensure compliance and decrease the chance of errors.
--Quest Password Reset Manager enables end users to reset passwords securely. Version 4.0 allows for more customization of password policies, permitting administrators to define different password policies, either by organizational unit or by group membership. This new version also includes required enrollment policies and GINA extensions that are compatible with non-Microsoft GINAs.
