EqualLogic Achieves Interoperabilty and Certification with Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Server Environments; EqualLogic's PS Series Storage and Symantec Backup Exec Provide Comprehensive Data Protection

Business Wire, June 12, 2006

NASHUA, N.H. -- EqualLogic(R), a leading provider of enterprise-class iSCSI storage area network (SAN) solutions, today announced it has achieved certification and full interoperability with Symantec Backup Exec 10d for Windows environments. Combining EqualLogic's award-winning PS Series storage with Symantec Backup Exec 10d for Windows provides enterprises with dramatic improvements for backup operations and simple recovery.

SANs give companies powerful backup architectures to protect business-critical applications, and EqualLogic and Symantec provide the underlying infrastructure. EqualLogic, a certified Symantec Technology Enabled Partner, is among the first iSCSI SAN vendors to receive certification for Backup Exec 10d for Windows Advanced Disk-based Backup Option (ADBO). The certification with Backup Exec's ADBO off-host backup feature virtually eliminates backup windows and backup load from application servers resulting in greater application availability and performance.

Both EqualLogic and Symantec Backup Exec 10d ADBO use Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to create snapshots in SANs, which are referred to as serverless or off-host backups, or VSS transportable snapshots. Symantec and EqualLogic manage the snapshots and data backups to eliminate application server load caused by backup operations, eliminating burdensome backup windows. The combined solution supports continuous data protection by protecting the backup data with the PS Series' built-in reliability and replication features. In addition, Symantec provides the industry's first Web-based file retrieval system.

John Joseph, vice president of marketing for EqualLogic, said, "Achieving certification with Symantec is another accomplishment that we've achieved on behalf of a customer base that constantly demands real-time value and immediate ROI. It is imperative that technology vendors work together to ensure complete compatibility and simple operations for optimal results, and it is one of our highest priorities. Symantec certification allows our customers to deploy advanced data protection seamlessly."

EqualLogic's PS Series SAN is tested and certified with a number of Symantec products, including Symantec Backup Exec for Windows and Veritas Storage Foundation - including Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas Cluster Server. EqualLogic's data-center-proven PS Series is the only native iSCSI SAN solution to offer a comprehensive and fully integrated set of features at no additional cost. Each PS Series storage array comes with fully redundant, fault-tolerant hardware and includes a complete package of automatic storage-management software in a self-contained chassis.
