TEL AVIV, Israel -- IVA Chairman Yoram Oron, "The award is a token of gratitude by the venture capital association and Israeli high-tech industry to the winners for their initiative and foresight.

The Israel Venture Association (IVA) has chosen to present its Israel Hi Tech Award for 2006 to Shimon Peres, Vice Prime Minister and Minister for the Development of the Negev and the Galilee, responsible for Regional Economic Development; Alan G. Hevesi, State Comptroller for the State of New York; Dr. Shimon Eckhouse, Chairman of the Board of Syneron Medical; and Yadin Kaufmann, Founding Partner of Veritas Venture Partners, and Founder and Chairman of Tmura - The Israeli Public Service Venture Fund.

The award will be presented at the Annual IVA Hi Tech Conference - 2006, on June 19th - 20th 2006, at the David Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv. Ehud Olmert, Prime Minister of the State of Israel, will attend the awards ceremony.

Shimon Peres, Nobel Prize laureate and former Prime Minister, currently serves as Vice Prime Minister and Minister for the Development of the Negev and the Galilee, Responsible for Regional Economic Development. Peres will receive the Israel Hi Tech Award for his vast contribution towards establishing Israel's high-tech sector. As former Minister of Defense, Peres was among the first to comprehend the feasibility of establishing a civilian industry based on know-how and building on the foundation of technologies developed by the country's defense industries for military purposes. Over time, Peres's vision helped to found the Israeli high-tech industry, now considered one of the most advanced and innovative in the world, along with being the spearhead of the Israeli economy. Peres's international reputation assisted greatly in bringing in foreign investment, which further supported the developed of Israeli tech industries, and raised Israel's economic level to that of Western nations.

Alan G. Hevesi is State Comptroller for the State of New York. Hevesi is responsible for New York State Common Retirement Fund (NYSCRF), which has $100 billion under management. Under Hevesi, NYSCRF has become the major investor in leading Israeli investment fund Markstone Capital Group; he recently committed NYSCRF to an additional $100 million investment in Israeli venture capital funds. Hevesi receives the Israel Hi Tech Award in recognition of his great commitment to the Israeli economy and high-tech sector.

Dr. Shimon Eckhouse, one of Israel's leading serial entrepreneurs, is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Syneron Medical Ltd., as well as being involved in the founding and management of a number of other companies, including start-ups CardioDex Ltd., ColorChip Inc., Edge Medical Devices Ltd., OrSense Ltd., NanoCyte Inc., Replicom Ltd., and others. He serves on the board of WideMed Ltd., and was a founding member of ESC Medical Systems Ltd. (now Lumenis Ltd.). Dr. Eckhouse receives the Israel Hi Tech Award for his impressive achievements as a veteran entrepreneur. He serves as a role model for all new entrepreneurs.

Yadin Kaufmann, one of Israeli venture capital's pioneers, has been a partner in Veritas Venture Partners since it was founded in 1987. Kaufmann receives the Israel Hi Tech Award for his activity as the Founder and Chairman of Tmura - The Israeli Public Service Venture Fund. Tmura receives donations of equity from mainly private Israeli and Israel-related high-tech companies and, upon a liquidity event, allocates the proceeds to education and youth-related charities in Israel. Kaufmann's involvement brought together dozens of Israeli high-tech companies and VC funds in an enterprise that assures the future well being of children and young people of lesser means.
