Business Wire, June 19, 2006

LOS ANGELES -- Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMST), announced today that it has appointed Alan Cohen executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Mr. Cohen will join the company in this newly created position on June 19 and report to Gemstar-TV Guide chief executive officer Rich Battista. An executive with 20 years experience as a marketing innovator, Mr. Cohen most recently served as chief marketing officer for Napster, the online music company.

"As a consumer facing company, in a rapidly changing media industry, the marketing of our corporate brand, and our collection of businesses, is becoming increasingly important. I'm pleased that Alan will be joining our senior management team to lead the effort to develop marketing initiatives and alliances that will help grow our business across the multiple platforms in which we operate," said Mr. Battista. "Alan's background in brand management is also important as managing the growth and evolution of the TV Guide brand is fundamental to our long-term success."

In addition to oversight of all corporate marketing functions, Mr. Cohen will have responsibility for brand management, licensing and merchandising, and corporate research. He will work closely with the marketing teams at the various Gemstar-TV Guide divisions in the development of the corporate brand, and in the formation of strategic marketing partnerships that will operate across platforms.

Mr. Cohen said, "TV Guide is one of the most recognizable consumer brands, and I'm looking forward to the challenge of enhancing its value across all of our businesses."

Since 2004, Mr. Cohen served as CMO for Napster, where he oversaw all marketing efforts during and after the launch of the world's first portable music subscription service. He was responsible for branding and company positioning, advertising, promotion, customer retention, and brand public relations. Before joining Napster, Mr. Cohen was a senior partner and executive group director for Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, responsible for all North American retail activities and corporate brand advertising for BP, one of the agency's largest global clients.

From 2000-2002, Mr. Cohen oversaw all marketing efforts and customer care as chief marketing officer of uBid.com, the second largest online auction website. Previously, he spent nearly a decade at Jim Beam Brands, where as vice president of brand management, he was responsible for leading all U.S. marketing activities for the company's portfolio of consumer brands including Jim Beam and DeKuyper. Prior to Jim Beam, Mr. Cohen spent five years at DDB Needham Worldwide.

Mr. Cohen holds a B.S. in Accounting from Northern Illinois University and an M.B.A. from Indiana University. He and his family reside in Southern California.
