Fortress Technologies Joins Wi-Fi Alliance, Continues Support for Wireless Standards; Company Promotes Interoperability of Wireless Networks
Business Wire, June 19, 2006
TAMPA, Fla. -- Fortress Technologies, a leader in secure wireless networking, today announced that it has joined the Wi-Fi Alliance to further the advancement of wireless networking interoperability. Fortress has demonstrated a long history of meeting important government standards - including the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) FIPS 140-2 and Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) - and now adds those promoted by the Wi-Fi Alliance, such as the WPA2(TM) (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security program. Based on the IEEE 802.11i standard, WPA2 provides security by employing the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm combined with 802.1x-based authentication. The Wi-Fi Alliance, a global, non-profit industry association, was created to promote and certify interoperability of products and services based on 802.11 technology.
"In becoming a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance, Fortress Technologies joins more than 250 companies from around the globe who are committed to delivering interoperable Wi-Fi solutions and ensuring a positive user experience through our Wi-Fi CERTIFIED(R) programs," said Wi-Fi Alliance Managing Director Frank Hanzlik. "We are pleased to have them become a part of the organization."
"Fortress Technologies is committed to ensuring complete security for both public and private sector wireless networks," said John Dow, Vice President, Business Development and Marketing, Fortress. "In order to deliver on that promise, it is essential that we remain at the forefront of the market in terms of security policies and standards. It is important for us to not only embrace the WPA2 program and other standards, but also extend the features and functionality of those standards to meet our customer's needs."
As part of the Wi-Fi Alliance, Fortress will participate in interoperability programs and market development efforts to advance security standards for wireless networks.
"Fortress is focused on helping our customers meet their wireless interoperability and security needs through our dedication to standards and high assurance security," said Dow. "Fortress' goal is to provide solutions that meet a broad spectrum of security requirements, from sensitive to secret communications, through the adoption of commercial and government architectures and programs, from WPA2 to Suite B."
