McDATA Again #1 in Fibre Channel Directors

Business Wire, June 2, 2006

BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Leading Fibre Channel Director Vendor for 27 Consecutive Quarters

McDATA Corporation (Nasdaq: MCDTA)(Nasdaq: MCDT) today announced it continues to lead the Fibre Channel director space with more than 36 points of product share, as recorded in Dell'Oro Group's Quarterly SAN report for calendar Q1 06.

For eight consecutive years, McDATA has consistently maintained the #1 position in the Fibre Channel director space. McDATA has held the #2 position in switching since its 2001 introduction of fabric switches. The company upheld and retained its strong product share position, while others suffered significant market share erosion in the quarter.

"Fibre channel switching is a crucial building block upon which McDATA's professional services organization and OEM partners can help customers build reliable solutions that meet their businesses' data access requirements," said Todd Oseth, chief operating officer, McDATA. "We are well positioned to extend McDATA's storage networking leadership into solutions offerings like the ROC (remote office consolidation) and disaster recovery."

The award-winning i10K is fully available through McDATA and its OEM partners. Additionally, the 4Gb/s 6140 is available now from McDATA and will be generally available through all major storage partners in Q2 06. McDATA expects to grow its director share in the coming quarters.

McDATA has shipped more than 25,000 directors to customers worldwide. In the fabric switch space, since 2001, McDATA has shipped more than 1 million ports of its Sphereon(TM) fabric switch product. McDATA's 4Gb/s Sphereon(TM) 4400 and 4700, offer the innovative FlexPort(TM) technology as well as best-in-class price performance.

Share calculations for McDATA are based on McDATA's fiscal Q106 actual reported results, adjusted for a calendar quarter. Competitive data was derived from the Dell'Oro Group's Quarterly SAN report for calendar Q1 published June 2006.
