Business Wire, June 21, 2006
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Alereon, Inc., the leading provider of mobile solutions for WiMedia ultrawideband (UWB) and Certified Wireless USB markets, today announces production availability of the AL4000 PHY chipset based on the WiMedia UWB common radio platform. Alereon is the first company to demonstrate a 480 Mbps WiMedia PHY solution, and the first company to deliver production silicon.
The Alereon AL4000 Family WiMedia-based PHY chipset is composed of the AL4100 RF Transceiver and AL4200 Baseband Processor (BBP). Together, the two chips provide a complete WiMedia-based PHY solution for use with any compatible WiMedia or Wireless USB MAC.
"We're confident that we're coming to the market with the best technology available to replace the complex tangle of cables that interconnect today's consumer electronics, peripherals and mobile devices, putting us well on our way to a Life Without Wires(TM), " said Eric Broockman, CEO of Alereon. "Thanks to the incredible industry momentum behind the WiMedia Alliance's standards and the organization's ability to build strong support and consensus the market for Certified Wireless USB is about to explode."
"Industry momentum behind WiMedia specifications continues to surge at an amazing pace," said Stephen R. Wood, president of the WiMedia Alliance. "UWB industry leaders such as Alereon are bringing products to market that deliver seamless connectivity among wireless consumer devices."
The AL4000 Chipset is available for volume shipments, having completed functional validation, characterization, testing, ATE correlation and a full 500-hour HTOL (High Temperature Operating Life) qualification. In-stock samples of the AL4000 PHY chipset are priced at $9.86 in 10k quantities.
