New Xerox Multifunction Copier/Printer Delivers Advanced Features to the Small Office

Business Wire, June 27, 2006

WILSONVILLE, Ore. -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) has launched the Xerox WorkCentre(R) 4118 desktop multifunction device, designed to give small offices the advanced copying, printing, scanning and faxing typically found in high-end multifunction systems.

Starting at $799, the WorkCentre 4118 copies and prints at 18 pages per minute and is available in two configurations. The WorkCentre 4118P copies and prints, and the WorkCentre 4118X adds faxing and color scanning.

Both systems offer advanced copying features, such as ID Card Copy. It enables people to copy both sides of a document - such as an ID card, license or an insurance card - onto one side of the page. ID Card Copy is essential for medical and healthcare organizations that want to cut the number of steps involved in creating patient files while reducing paper waste.

"Small businesses want 'high-end' performance in one easy-to-use, compact device. We are meeting those needs with an expanding array of digital copiers, printers and multifunction machines," said Tim Williams, president, Xerox Office Group. "The WorkCentre 4118 does it all, providing customers the extra features they want at an affordable price."

The WorkCentre 4118 comes with color scanning up to 4800 dpi and Nuance's PaperPort SE v10.0, document and image management software that allows people to manage scanned files. The WorkCentre 4118 also comes with Nuance's OmniPage(TM) SE v4.0 software, which converts paper into editable electronic documents providing small businesses with a tool to quickly turn stacks of paper - letters, contracts, tables and manuals - into word processing and spreadsheet documents.

The WorkCentre 4118 is easy to use; a large front panel display makes it easier to select printing, copying, scanning and faxing options. High-capacity toner cartridges with a yield of 8,000 pages, coupled with an industry-leading paper tray capacity of 550 sheets, means less time maintaining the printer. The WorkCentre 4118 also provides flexibility with options such as a second 550-sheet paper tray and an internal network card, which allows companies to add features as they grow.

The WorkCentre 4118 is ENERGY STAR(R) compliant and part of Xerox's Green World Alliance supplies recycling program. It comes with the Xerox Total Satisfaction Guarantee and is available immediately worldwide through Xerox resellers, distributors, authorized sales agents, dealers, direct sales representatives and concessionaires. It is also available online at www.xerox.com/direct and at 800-ASK-XEROX.

How to Win at Office Politics

Like it or not, every workplace is a political environment. But operating effectively within it doesn’t have to mean sucking up, lying, or slinging dirt. In its purest form, office politics is simply about getting from here to there: securing a promotion, seeing an idea come to fruition, or gaining support to make an organizational change. Playing the game well is about defending your position, earning respect, exchanging favors, and keeping your sanity amid the chaos. To get started, you need to know what you really want from work, then orient your political moves toward those goals. It all starts with strong relationships and helping others; those people in return make up the support system that helps you realize your goals. Here’s how it’s done.

Because of the decision to accelerate the JSF production Alcoa Aluminum will have to invest over a hundred million dollars in refurbishing a twenty-five ton press used to make structural components for the F-35. This was built in the Fifties and illustrates how industrial base investments are critical even when they were made five decades ago.

    Why You Shouldn’t Bash Cash

Today’s seemingly microscopic yields on money market funds aren’t so bad when you take into account the fact that inflation has actually been negative for much of the year. As a result, real returns are actually fairly decent. Here’s how to think about the role of cash in your portfolio, particularly in retirement.
