Business Wire, June 27, 2006

SACRAMENTO, Calif. & MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) today announced that O1 Communications, a leading provider of next-generation telecommunication services in Sacramento, Calif., has deployed Lucent's highly reliable integrated switching platform to migrate its network to an IMS-ready softswitch-based IP network for advanced voice services. This will allow O1 the ability to add VoIP features and offer VoIP Services throughout the state of California.

The Lucent Compact Switch is a carrier-class solution with fault-tolerant hardware and software that delivers exceptional uptime for all voice and data services and with redundancy that extends to every part of the system including inputs and outputs, switching fabric, and system processing. The switch can support from as few as 1,000 subscribers to more than 100,000 subscribers.

The Lucent Compact Switch will enable O1 to deliver tandem switching and advanced next-generation Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services to enterprises and wholesale customers throughout California.

Lucent Worldwide Services is providing integration, installation and engineering services.

"O1 Communications has invested thousands of engineering hours and significant capital to develop our voice over IP network. By deploying Lucent's carrier-grade platform, O1's customers can rely on a network to provide even greater quality of service, security and reliability, and do it in a very cost-effective way," said Brad Jenkins, president of O1.

The Lucent switch also can serve as a building block for carriers that choose to migrate to an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network to offer blended lifestyle services.

"The Lucent Compact Switch offers O1 the flexibility needed to provide today's advanced services, as well as those that will become available in the future, and will allow them to grow efficiently to meet future customer VoIP demand," said Gerry Cafaro, vice president of sales for Lucent Technologies. "Understanding the needs of an innovative telecommunications provider like O1 was Lucent's driving force behind developing a cost-effective solution that would enable an easy and efficient evolution to advance services with a competitive edge."

Service providers can deploy the Lucent switch for end-office (Class 5) and tandem (Class 4) applications to replace an existing switch or as an addition to the network. In addition to providing VoIP, Internet off-load and gateway mobile switching center features, the Compact Switch also offers CALEA and E911 capabilities.
