U.S. Senate Campaign Selects Viewpoint to Power Online Advertising Campaign; Unicast by Viewpoint Creates Compelling Rich Media Ads for Senate Candidate Mike McGavick
Business Wire, June 27, 2006
NEW YORK -- Viewpoint Corporation (NASDAQ: VWPT), a leading internet marketing technology company, today announced that the campaign for Mike McGavick, candidate for a U.S. Senate in Washington state, has selected Unicast by Viewpoint to develop and deploy rich media advertisements on behalf of the campaign.
Media Plus , Mr. McGavick's ad agency, which has a long history of handling traditional media for political campaigns, chose Unicast as the rich media experts to help serve the goals of the campaign on the web. Viewpoint's internet marketing technology was used to version existing broadcast television assets for the web, thereby expanding the audience reach of the McGavick campaign and providing consistent messaging across the Internet. Unicast developed three video-based ads, each designed to achieve the campaign's goal of building awareness for Mike McGavick and his platform.
After an initial test period in which all of the ads will play at the same frequency, Unicast will use its tracking capabilities to measure audience response and optimize results based on which ads are most successful at driving traffic. As the election date draws nearer, Unicast and the campaign office of Mike McGavick will work together to develop new spots based on the latest hot-button issues for voters.
"We knew that an online presence was a critical element of our campaign strategy, but we didn't have extensive experience in this space to do it on our own. Unicast has helped us to leverage the power of web to reach Washington voters," said Dan Brady, campaign manager. "Unicast has played a key role in enhancing our outreach efforts not only by developing a compelling ad for online audiences but also by helping us to effectively target voters on the web."
"The Mike McGavick campaign recognizes the tremendous value of using internet marketing technology to drive voter awareness, and has capitalized on Unicast's experience in rich media online advertising," said Jason McKay, vice president and general manager for Unicast. "As the election season heats up, we anticipate that more political campaigns will seek technology solutions to tap into the enormous power of the Internet. Unicast's technology allows interactivity within the ad itself, including clickable video hot spots, data capture and a send-to-a-friend feature to create a viral component for any campaign."
The advertisement is currently running on several local Washington websites, including KING5.com (Seattle NBC affiliate), KREM.com (Spokane CBS affiliate), SpokesmanReview.com (home of Spokane's daily newspaper), and SeattleTimes.com. In addition, the ad is running on a geotargeted basis on national publishers FoxNews.com and DrudgeReport.com. Unicast developed three different formats for each ad, including its custom click-to-full screen version, which launched on June 5th.
"While political campaigns have long recognized the power of the Internet for fund raising, they are just beginning to explore its potential to target voters directly on the web," said Patrick Vogt, Viewpoint's CEO. "Our rich media technology enables campaigns to connect with supporters through surveys, instant communications, and other interactive feedback mechanisms. Until now we have only seen the tip of the iceberg in terms of what internet marketing technology can do to enhance a campaign strategy. We expect this trend to grow exponentially over the next couple of years."
