Business Wire, June 30, 2006
HERNDON, Va. -- RCN Corporation (NASDAQ: RCNI), a leading provider of triple play cable, high-speed internet and phone services, today announced the launch of its new, free portal that allows anyone accessing the internet to customize the content on their home page.
The portal home page, found at http://rcn.net, features some of the most popular web content, services and features in true broadband style. From streaming video to local weather and movie previews, all users are able to control and personalize their own home page, conveniently access their webmail, customize their weather page by zip code, and see special RCN offers. RCN customers can also view broadband videos and RCN TV listings, pay their bills online, and connect to other RCN services like RCN interaction Music and Games.
Once registered, all visitors can easily customize their news by adding the most popular or favorite news feeds. RCN's 4 in 1 search engine, powered by InfoSpace, employs metasearch technology, which seeks out all the best engines, so users receive better and more thorough search results.
"RCN's promise to connect customers to more is evident in all of RCN's services. Our new portal illustrates that by allowing our customers to personalize their home page with sites and information that are important to them. RCN's customers will be able to create a meaningful online experience in interacting with us to manage their relationship," said Timothy Dunne, RCN's Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer. He added, "We will be adding 'community-building' applications down the road that will allow them to optimize their communications and online experience."
Use of RCN's portal, which is hosted by Infospace, is free to all users; completion of a brief registration form is needed for the ability to change or add news feeds.
